Have been evaluating a test set from Canon. Any brother and sisters here had any experience with this camera?
This is a 3CCD HD Digital Video camera. It accepts up to two 3 pin external mic input. Has a hot shoe, and dual zoom and record button. One on the right back of the camera and another on the top handle(Allows you to still operate the camera while you hold on to the handle).

HDV Recording Format

 Record in both HDV and DV formats using MiniDV cassette tapes for convenience

  - Employs same MPEG2 compression method (MP@H-1440 for video) as used in digital broadcasts

• A inbuilt stereo (electret condenser) microphone is available on both XH A1 and XH G1
 
• The camcorders allow users to store up to 9 different image quality adjustments in the camcorder’s body. Up to 20 custom presets can be saved and loaded from the memory card
 
• 21 different camera setting status can be stored in the camcorder’s memory and memory card which can then be transferred and loaded from the card
 
 

Connectivity Inputs & Outputs  
 
• Professional Jackpack (XH G1 only) located at rear end of camcorder adds more functionality to suit users’ needs. Professional Jackpack includes:
 
- SMPTE Time Code Input and Output: SMPTE Time Code can be recorded along with video to facilitate editing during post-production.
 
- GENLOCK: Allows users to synchronize a mulit-camera, live-switched production environment in the studio or on location
 
- HD/SD-SDI: Serial Digital Interface (SDI) terminal is able to deliver full resolution uncompressed HD/SD-SDI video output at a 4:2:2 colour space

this is a pro model, you into pro video cam?

but they look sleek these days. I had some huge Hitachi's during my broadcast days.

Humm.....to record my cat living habit!! Is there a diff in pro and non-pro camera? No other digital camera gives 3CCD HD recording leh. I also want to skip the upgrading process....I think I wasted alot of money moving from 300D -> 10D -> 5D ->1DM2......don't wish to go through the same process.

it's a good camera. heavy though.

A1 version is about $6.1K
G1 version is about $10K

Am considering the A1 version.

Yes, HDV and DV writes in the same format, so they can use the same MiniDV tape. You consider $6K cheap....wah you rich le!

miniDV or standard size DV? for pro cam will be considered cheap right? I mean is this what a news or studio crew will use? pro broadcast gear is insanely expensive. the first time I heard that an entry level betamax (yes they still use those) VTR cost S$13K I nearly

a dream come true. i am well verswd with XM2. I WANT TO BUY another but its discountinue. do any bro and sister know where i can get old stock or someone want to sell  xm2 video camcorder.  raj  012-5887719  ipoh. if i upgrade i go for xh a1  as it is the cheaper modal.
