Sounds good. But still, with the dropping price of the 350D, the Rebel would be my pick anytime.

This guy has 12x zoom 36mm to 400 plus mm. IS spot metering, Hot shoe, ISO 1600.....I think is really quite feature packed! Very good for anyone who want to learn photography in a small package.

How would you compare the picture quality with SX100 IS?

I have tried both. i preferred the S5 IS's more vibrant, punchier colours. It's got a more powerful zoom as well but not so good on the edges, soft.

Is there any photo you can post? I'm deciding on either SX100 or S5. The only attraction of SX100 is the size. Pciture quality is an important criteria.

Oh, not to mention the fact that the focusing for the S5 IS is faster than the SX100 and it focus much closer...
And not to forget, the S5 IS has a more powerful flash as well. The only fall back is the size but the weight is pretty light.
Then again, I might be used to the weight of a DSLR and if you're talking about picture quality, DSLR is the way to go.
I don't have any photos unfortunately.
Even though this is indeed a Canon forum, if I were to recommend a P&S camera for one to use...
Well, without a doubt, it will be a Panasonic Lumix LX-1 with its Leica lenses.
Straight out of the camera in Jpeg, the Lumix has a more vibrant green and sharper edges.
The only problem is that it is more suited for landscape and travel, as it doesn't have a very far reach (105mm to be exact).
Nontheless, if you are still torn between the S5 and the SX100, I'd recommend the S5 IS.
More for its further reach, it's more powerful flash, and the fact that I love the way I can grip the camera.
