I used to have a Manfrotto 190Prob. My bro is using a 055Prob. The 055 feels more sturdy but it heavier. It might also be too tall for you. I'm 1.73m and with the 055+ballhead+20D (with grip), the VF is actually slightly higher than my eye-line. I suspect the 190 will be just right.

Just a quick update on my tripod search...
The 190/055 series legs are sold out at most of the places i went to (CP,MS etc.)
Was told to expect stocks earliest in Nov.
Looks like i have to hunt around the B/S marketplace
