Random thoughts.... one time pain 5D mk II or short term fix 7D ? Still prefer 5D mk II - much better noise control over 7D. But no on camera flash for 5DmkII - this is much needed...

7D only lacks FF and beat 5D Mk2 in every other expect. If your exposure is right, the noise control of 7D is not bad too. 7D is cheaper too can buy more lens.

1.3 is just nice.. but most ex! why these people design things these way... perhaps that is why still very profitable!
Is it true that 7D noise control is much better than 40/50D ? I want a usable iso1600, 350D is quite a pain to use at iso800.
for the kit, difference between 5DmkII n 7D is about 2K.
for me, 5d mkII my guess is, the feeling of wanting to upgrade would be 5yrs, for 7D, maybe 3 years?

7D noise control is better then 40D and 50D due to new sensor design. 7D usable ISO is up to 3200. in fact you can also use ISO 6400 without any issue.

Victor, thank you for the info. Thinking of getting the one with 15-85mm. I guess i may need to wait for about 1 month if i really place an order/reservation.. I guess for my level of usage, it is hard to justify for a 5D mk II. I think it is about $3300 for 7D with 15-85mm. What i am looking for is 7D at iso1600 and the result is still much better than iso800 for 350D.

Okay had the camera for about 1mth. The features are cool, noise control are great. But somehow, I still go back to my 1D3 for most of my shoot. The color reproduction from the 1D3 is still my choice.

Is 7D's noise control better than that of 1D Mk3? Very tempted to get a second hand 1D mk3 when the second hand price drops further.

hard to compare....both are about the same 1D3 pics attracts me more. But 7D have more interesting features fun camera to have and small. AF is not too bad.

I agree. I think i have seen or have some of your 1d3 flamenco shots - definitely better in terms of image quality. I didn't take a good look at the noise though. I think about the same or slightly better for 1d3.
For the 7D hd video part, any free/public domain software can be used to edit or resize for upload?

Don't mind I OT a bit...
Bokeh & sharpness produced than FF is usually better than those produced than APS-C, given the same lens on the 2 different sensors. Are the differences bokeh & sharpness also apparent between that of APS-H & APS-C?

depth of field is shallower on FF (5DmkII)(bokeh?) -more blurry background. Sharpness wise, from what i read and saw, it seems to be sharper for 5DmkII compared to 7D. Agree, base on my memory, 1d3 (1.3x FF) produce sharper image.
