my laptop HDD is dying soon ( i think )? giving out noises when it's spinning. is it possible to buy a new HDD and request the shop to migrate everything over, then just swap the HDD and use? (OS, data, programs, etc)

Try Chamoxa....else you can get a programme and "DD" the whole hard disk. "DD" is a linux command to copy everything byte by byte sector by sector. (Provided the HDD is exactly the same...else your larger capacity HDD will be reduced the the capacity of the old HDD. giggling...) If you ask Chamoxa to do it, you might need to pay them a small fee.

I think its quite hard to migrate everything over - OS + Programs.  yes chamoxa is at SLS.  I doubt they can do it...  you may want to also check out those notebook/pc repair shops at sim lim.

Can try victor's idea... i dont think u can find a 50GB, so just get one higher capacity say 60 or 80 and sacrifice the 10 or 30 GB loss.  Then get another hardisk if you really need more space. I think your notebook may be able to accomodate another hardisk but with another hdisk means it consume more battery power n generate more heat.  Or just get external usb hdisk.

Else, get a higher capacity hardisk n reinstall all the programs again. I think now max is 160GB

if you want I know someone who repairs PCs and notebooks, he should be able to get a new HDD and copy all your stuff over. He managed to replace my Dell laptop keyboard.

He lives in Marine Crescent, you will need to go to him.

just go chamoxa and buy lah. not that much difference amongst the brands, just try to get those manufactured in Singapore ones, and be diligent with your backup!
