For all those who are looking for tripods, look not at Manfrotto.
Instead, focus your attention on...
Giottos

Yes, I am not kidding.
They have one of the best bargain, study and flexible tripods around.

Purchased a model MT 9160 aluminium tripod for $150.
It's very flexible and can even go 360º around.

Add another Giottos ballhead and the whole thing stays sturdy.
It's not your flimsy Manfrotto quick release plate that jiggles when mounted.
It's a hole where the plate goes in and sticks firmly when tightened.

Kudos and upz for Giottos.

I have doubt in their durabilities. Have people who complain that after 2 to 3 years the tripod cannot make it already!

small and light tripods go for me.Mobility and speed are key.Dont like to be bogged down by the heavy tripod.
Slik sprint pro does it for me.
My manfrotto only goes out when I'm doin only long exposure shoots.

Giottos. You didn't mention anything about it. Hehe..

I'd say Manfrotto are only good for their monopods.

Their ball heads with such crappy quick release plates aren't even worth mentioning.

I think Arcaswiss ballhead is crap. There's this perpetual lock up problem with their B series. Not sure if the updated Z series has this problem resolved.

Arcaswiss have problems with their later products. Their early ballheads will last forever.

I use a Manfrotto / Gitzo combination. Actually, I don't have much choice where tripod head is concern because a gear head suits my work best. So I use the 410 and 405 gear heads together with a Gitzo GT3540LS. Just nice.

May I now what applications would required geared precision?

Cheers,

You can do very minute adjustments with gear heads. Suitable for aligning vertical and horizontal line. Good for architectural and landscape works.

After an entire day of shopping around. I realised our selection of tripods locally is rather limited.

What is it that you want but can't find locally? I thought most of the tripod brands are available here?
