I don't see why it can't be so blue...In New Zealand it is even more blue.

The exposure for the 2nd picture was diffcult at best. The darkest to the brightest was about 6 stops. Only thing did on DI was pulling details out of the extreme ends of the highlighted and shadowed areas.

I must say the experience with the 14bit sensor was great in this area, you will be very surprise by how much details you can pull out from a very under-exposed area.
