it makes sense because his work depends on getting the best results from his equipment. what puzzles me are hobbyists who make hell of a noise when they barely shoot every weekend.  Gone Mad

Different people, different criterias.

I'm happy with my 5D. Even if I were to dream about the D3, it's still a price far away from me...

1D or 1Ds are the flagship, cos they are meant for different purpose...sports photographer will prefer the 1D to the 1Ds.

Hmm ... I guess if I was paying 6K+ for a pro bod, I would expect it to perform reliably.

I don't understand the logic - are hobbyist supposed to receive less quality or reliability from a pro body if they can afford it?

I'm more for the logic, the hobbyist doesn't need that kind of equipment. Mk 2 works fine, stick with it.

a hobbyist shld get what they pay for but how many of them really put the camera through its paces?  IHIH

there are too many of them locally who bitch and whines and threaten to jump ship at the smallest things. i am sure the other camp is not that perfect too. looking at the quality of stuff taken by most hobbyist here, is a flagship camera a want or a need?

It's still a flawed logic IMO.

Whether or not a hobbyist or enthusiast needs the performance is besides the point entirely. A pro level (and premium priced) product has to deliver.

As to the 'local whiners' who bitch endlessly, I just ignore them. Options and competition is always a good thing - it helps keep the players honest (hopefully Canon has learnt something from all this).

Well. The way I see it, whether it is a need or a want doesn't matter. As long as the consumer has paid that price for it, then the manufacturer should package the produce to match up to that amount, and make sure that it remains at that standard throughout the product.
