-25 with a wind chill of up to 100km/hr Shot this for the Eräsetti Safaris. They are the 2nd biggest safari operator in Finland. Their main office is next to Santa Claus's. Quite cool... I even had a nice chat n a beer with him(Santa) Pity no photos allowed though... Very nice day even though it was f@#king freezing... all shot with 70-200 on a 5D. Batteries were changed every 20 to 30 shots... My toughest shoot to date... but also one of my most enjoyable Just above the Arctic Line, Meaning that the average temperature year round is below freezing...

Did you bring a heat pack? Or you did not expect this? I think one way of getting around the problem is to use a small therma bag with heat pack and store your batteries in them.
The coldest i got to was about -5 to -10 i think. I constantly get err99 and i could see that my camera went on and off multiple times by itself. I could see the camera trying to read the card. I thought my camera going to die.

usually i will put the heatpack on the camera on the vertical grip... however in this case... i had to put 3 heat packs in my jacket pocket and the batteries there. No vertical grip as it loses heat too fast. wiht this setup i can get some shots in... but the batteries last at the most 5 mins out of the pocket. if its put immediately in the camera. if not. thats it.
