And another of Saturn. A series of 4 shots with varying adjustment of gain and "exposure".

Yep, I used a Philips Toucam and a Meade 8" SCT telescope. The moonshots were 20 secs and Saturn is from 20 to 40 seconds with corresponding reduction in gain.

My scope is 2000mm f10. No additional eyepiece(magnification) for the moon shots but I use a 2x barlow for Saturn which makes it 40000mm f20. Somehow I noticed that the magnification is higher using the webcam. I have tried (or rather my son) using the 40D and we were unable to achieve such magnification. Still trying to find out the reason.

Thanks Ukay. I managed to get a 4 minute exposure this time and stacked just over 2000 frames to get the final image. Will be trying on Jupiter soon.

The Iris video capture software I used captures 15 frames a second and over a period of 4 minutes, it is over 3000 frames. The processing software Registax automatically aligns, stacks and discards the "bad" frames.

It is a very simple process, just clicking on a button. The final processing is by using photoshop, adjusting the levels. The good thing about the capture and processing software is that they are free, downloded from the web.

I have actually improved on the picture of Saturn by adjusting the levels a little bit more below:
