I'd pick Benro for their plates. It's the same as the arca swiss or wemberly ones. Very tough and tight.

I tried the Benro, the Giottos, the Manfrotto and the Arca Swiss.

Giottos: camera mounting plate is rounded, so i insert it like a man having sex with a woman (tripod ball head).

Benro: arca swiss kind of plate. it's those slider type with a knob to tighten the sides.

Manfrotto: a squarish plate that plugs into the ball head.

Arca Swiss: the sliding type.

All i can say is, for the Benro and Arca Swiss, when the camera is mounted on the ball head, it will not move. whereas, the plates for the giottos and manfrotto, after locking it into place, it still moves around. however, ball head creeps. that means, when tightening it, the camera will droop...

damn it, imagine after all the composition, u tighten, it droops while u tighten. u curse. even after tightening, after you leave a camera with a heavy lens on it for five minutes, it will droop. that happened to all except arca swiss. so moral of story, get a ball head that is able to handle WAAAAY more than the required state load.

HUH?

Poor Mikey. So much has happened to one so young ... for chronic drooping problems, you need the strongest and best system money can buy.

24-70 can kill most ball heads.

i got the arca swiss already. Smiley

3 things for ball heads
1) the plate when mounted to the ball head, must not move/shake
2) when tightening, the ball head must not move camera
3) when tightened, the ball head must not droop
