I was just wondering what kind of flash attachment the majority is using when covering events both indoor and outdoor with flash. Stuffs like Omni bounce or Gary Fong lightsphere whale tail, etc....
Cause I'm now using Just Bounce white card on my flash and its quite cumbersome to have to remove/reinstall it when camera orientation change. What is the next best alternative? Thank you.

i prefer not to use flash unless absolutely necessary. even then, i'll bounce the flash from the ceiling, hence i don't use any flash attachments.

if indoors, don't use a card at all. bounce it off ceilings and walls. even aiming to the side does wonders.

if outdoors, the bounce card is definitely on, still, it's more of a -2FE just to give that little spark

one of the best ways of doing this would be to use an offshoe cable and start firing in directions with your hand

I love shooting it direct for my own work.
If it were for others, I will just bounce it off walls. No walls? Then direct.

when possible I prefer to use one bounced flash, with additional direct flash (appropriately ratio-ed) to create shadows and highlights.

Most of the time i shoot direct too but you gotta try a few times to get an ideal compensation right.  Sometimes i use a self made white card.

I lurve to impress my non photographer friends by bouncing a 550EX on the ceiling. they never cease to be amazed how it can light up the whole room and make them look beautiful (compared when they get direct flashed).

HAHA wait till u see got PNS camera with a 90º upward flash

ok OT.

let's just say that the best way to make a person look REALLY good is to light them out, without showing how obvious the lighting source is...

As for me, I use a Just Bounce white card and I usually bounce it off the ceiling. WIth the 60CT-4, it was not an issue. But with the 580EX2, I find that the light is not enough to brighten up the whole room when using E-TTL. Any solution please? By the way, is there an Auto mode for the 580EX2? I mean the Auto mode where the light sensor at the front of the flash does the reading of the brightness of the flash fired.

those kinds means it will fire twice. that will result in people closing their eyes when the 2nd flash is fired.

i'd say ETTL only works when aiming directly. if you're firing via bounce, you just do 1/1 or 1/2 and adjust accordingly.

the moment your flash does any angle besides direct aim, ETTL goes down the drain. you're already risking it.

I'm using a lightsphere, and so far it has been a hit and miss affair for me. Still need to learn more...
