Don't buy yet. Wait till Quad Cores become common in MacBks.

Until Photoshop utilises quad cores. No point getting them yet.

Photoshop can use 2. My other apps can use the other two.

AFAIK, there ARE mac apps that DO utilise them.

Looks like it's finally time to jump ship. Can't believe I'm going back to Apple after 25 years!

Incidentally, will you opt for the glossy screen or the matt screen?

Cheers,

Matte. Glossy is a pain to the eyes.

Thanks for the advice. Matt it shall be then.

Strange that the webstore prices are still subject to agency approval. Anyone knows that this means?

Cheers,

Everytime there's an Apple product with wireless capabilities, some department needs to check whether it'd infringe/affect the radio network.

Never seen them rejecting any Apple product before though. Takes a while, probably few weeks.

Singapore's very restrictive about the radio freq stuff.

Then again, Apple does pay the IDA to check, right? So that approved, means can sell here, and make more $.

why? it's not as if only Apple has wireless capability. any importer of wireless capable equipment has to declare in a form on the operating frequency band, that's all, and if it happens to be in a licensed band then you just need to have a license.

Don't ask me how it works. I heard from an Apple retailer that's what the regulators do, to test the equipment prior to releasing.

I'm guessing that only Apple announce new products this way, while others are less transparent. Hence we only notice that with Apple stuff, not other brands.

I don't think "agency approval" is related to the radio stuff. if you hear from the retailers or agents, what do they know?

In fact, the regulator does not test the equipment. Their require the importers to submit lab certificates on all components that connects to the wireline infrastructure (such as PSTN modem) or emits RF. they will also accept certificates by recognised world certification bodies, which certainly Apple would have gotten in the US or Europe.

So I can assure you there are no actual testing by anybody here in Singapore.
