Yeah, once you've experienced the 1D MkII (and above) AF, nothing else comes close.

Interestingly, I met one pro sports tog who turned down the Canon system and instead went for the much slower Olympus system (3fps) at that time. He said that he didn't need the blazing speed and preferred the OM glass because he was intimately familiar with the sports he shot, and the atheletes, their techniques and even habits/responses. The 300mm f/2.8 (600mm equivalent on the 4/3 system) he showed me was indeed impressive!

You know something? In light of all the technology, I sometimes wonder how all the sports togs and PJs worked before in the days of MF and film, where 3.5 - 5 fps was standard (the highest back then was the 14fps Canon camera with the non-moving translucent pellicle mirror.)

Actually, photojournalism or sports photography with MF aint that difficult, you just gotta be able to control your DOF and MF tracking well.Practice is the key.You don't need all that high speed.You just need practice, quick reaction and to be alert.
