Just got the KangRinpoche Ball head...I must say miles away from the Benro KB1. From my initial experience, the ball head locks in position with no creep at all, with my 1DMII, 70-200 F2.8 and 580EX flash, tilting at approx. 45 degrees. A light turn on the knob locks the ball head in place. The Benro have to use all your might to tighten the knob and still creep.

Get the best you can affod Mikey, it's really wotrth it, and besides, it will last you a lifetime!

Last weekend I manouvered a spoting scope with an equivalent of a 1500mm lens and I could easily lock my ballhead with two fingers. Adjustments with the friction control was a breeze and remained in place. No creep throughout the 2-3 hours that it was mounted and it might be arguable that a soprting scops is relatively light, at that kind of magnification, even 1mm of movement can throw the subject off.

I guess the real test would be astrophotography or larger than life-sized macro work.

The ultimate head I want will be the wimberly head. That will be later when I get the 200 F2.

Ballheads like KRP and ArcaSwiss are on my to-die-for list. However, my budget is pretty much around $500 excluding the 2 arca swiss plates for the cameras. Now, the only thing is to wait for one good deal to drop by...

If you need it just buy lah! Like I wait and wait....and leave with those limitation and frustration.....(not worth). I got the head with body plate at $458 from cathay. Additional wimberly plates cost about $120 each.

Haha...Arca Swiss is $868 for the same specs. $458 comes with a body plate. Go Cathay and try both you will be convinced to get $458 and save the money to get more plates. At the end of the day, I know I am getting the Wimberly head too. I must say the chinese did a damn good job in copying this time round. The Acra Swiss plate mounting area is better designed to commodate wider range of mounting plates, but that is if you ever need all the different size. If you want to mount 400 F2.8 and above, even the Acra Swiss that cost $868 can't hold it well.
