and HERE IS THE PROGRAM for MUSIC - http://www.hexazona.com/images/miscellaneous/UCC_music.pdf

The NUS Arts Festival is on from 15 Feb to 23 Mar. I have arranged for members of Canongraphers to cover the events. Those interested to explore stage and dance photography, here is your chance!

Following is the Dance programs (there are others such as Concerts and Drama, I will post separately later).

Each event is limited to three photographers. Flash photography is NOT allowed. Interested photographers please reply below with the event you are interested in (specify event name and time).

You will need at least a fast zoom, or better still ultra-fast primes. The organisers ask that you allow them to use any of your photgraphs (i.e. those that can make it lah).

Hi Heng Wah,

Could you post in the forum that they need to sign up before we can
allow them to take photos of the events? They can email their contact
details to cfamarketing@nus.edu.sg . We will provide them with a
photographer's pass to enter the venues.

Jasmine.

alright Gary here are the pix you wanted to see. Not to make an excuse, but I would just highlight some challenges for anyone new to this kind of photography, and I would be happy to hear critiques beyond those constraints.

I shot two event. The first is a solo performance by Daniel Yeung. The performance is very low light, sometimes in total darkness or with just red spot or flood lights. I try to make abstract type compositions in this event.

The second is a Malay cultural dance. Unfortunately the stage is badly cluttered, with a projector screen as backdrop, red lights again and this time they threw in smoke generators for good measure. I pick out what I can and try to recover skin tones during RAW processing.

Indeed very challenging if you don't have a 5D, F/2 and below lens.  I think you were in quite a good position to shoot.

Wah, thricky....such a situation, I won't hesitate to push all the way up to ISO3200 to keep the motion freezed. And just use cross sensor for AF. What is your shutter speed for these shots?

oops sorry I don't know why the EXIF were stripped. I'll reload them later.

I think in general I try to keep within ISO 800 and 1/160s. That's the main reason for the 50/1.2 as it allows wide open (although a bit soft) in harsh light. the 50/1.4 would flare like crazy.

Thanks for sharing Choy.

Very demanding conditions.

What were the other CG-er's shots like?
