It's coming to Singapore.
It's being held in the CBD around the Esplanade.

The tickets for General Walkabout is $168.

Does it mean that the whole damn place will be walled up and that I have to pay to get in and walk around and shoot?
Does that also mean that if I want to go Esplanade for a walk, I can't?

Chances are, it means you will get to walk around the designated non-security/condoned off areas that all other spectators get to access, which probably means a zillion miles away from whatever pathetic race 'babes' they hire, and also a gazillion miles away from the actual track, or high up/safely barricaded away as no one would want to be held liable for accidents (they're not particularly worried about you, but the billions of dollars of equipment and drivers  giggling...).

I hope I'm wrong though, or that organisers get really radical and allow the crowds to get closer to the action.

If you have kang tow, your best bet might be press-passes, or better yet, passes to the VVIP areas.

I noticed in the past at F1 type boat races, the best vantage point was the VVIP tents and not the press tent. Sides, that's where the bored (and generally stunning-depending on your luck) wives of wrinkled tycoons air their boobs for the world to gawk at, and the food and champagne is first class. Mikey, who knows, you might even get to be someones toy-boy if you manage to get in there! Laugh till drop

Haha. I am actually looking to get the general walkabout ticket so I can shoot closer to the edge (think of audience at the sidewalk taking snapshots in WRC) not so sure if they have any areas that do allow that. Probably one of the bends, one of the straights and one high up...

No, from my experience with 5 Melbourne GP, its not the same as rally. Its just too dangerous. You'd be really lucky if you can find a spot and have a clear view of the cars at all. The entire track will be lined with concrete barriers. The grand stand and coporate boxes are the areas where you can have a good view of the cars, because you are seating higher up.

Then it's not recommended to even get a walkabout ticket in the first place as there's not much places you can go?

Sometimes, its not about seeing the cars or taking photos of them. If you are attending a GP for the 1st time, I can almost guarantee you won't get any useable photos at all unless you have a press pass. With the walkabout tickets, you get to feel the atmosphere which I would encourage 1st timers to be there at least once.
