does any one here uses a rangefinder? film or digital. I am seriously considering a rangefinder but obviously cannot afford a Leica nor an Epson R-D1, so perhaps a film Bessa R2/R3. anybody has one?

Rangefinders. You might want to find one with a built in metering system. Or at best, carry around an external lightmeter. The image taken and viewed through are very different. JediForce4ever has one and I tried it, pretty interesting and silent on the shutter but noisy on the rewind.

Rangefinders are very different yet pleasant cameras to work with.
I am using the Bessa R and all I can say is that it has been an incredibly great camera to use.It is light, fast, has a bright viewfinder, and the most important part, it is cheap and affordable for me.Although body is indeed a little plasticky, I can't ask for more from a camera at that price and for its price, I think it has already given me more than I can ask for.It is not all that fragile. But it is not as tough built as a Leica. That is for sure. The viewfinder brightness is on par with the Lecia.

my purpose for a rangefinder would be street and in situ shots, unlikely a lightmeter would come in useful. I am thinking about one of the Bessa R2 or R3 models which have aperture priority mode.

Choy!

Let's go shoot if you are interested. I can arrange a set for you. But if it's street photography you are looking at, I think the Voigtlander Bessa R4A seems to fit your requirements better as it as 21, 25, 38, 35 and 50 mm framelines.

Cheers,
