but ratio is not even part of ETTL.

actually i am abit lost as what u are referring to. the ratio will still be done by the ste2. the radiopopper only handles the triggering. anyway ste2 only handles 2 channel right?

I'm not sure if I'm getting this correct, but I think we're talking about two different ratios here.

One is lighting ratio, which you control manually by adjusting the power output of each strobe (thus invalidating ETTL), and the other is the distribution ratio of which groups of strobes to fire with the ST-E2? Does that sound correct? I just re-read this, and is doesn't sound correct, but I've never worked with Canon strobes before.

Or can the ST-E2, (with the appropriate Canon strobes) control LIGHTING ratio WITH ETTL? Can it control lighting ratio at all?

That means, can I use an ST-E2 with say 4 Canon speedlights, and from my ST-E2, tell each Canon strobe, hey, I want so much light from you, and so much light from No 2, and so much light from No 3, and so much light from No 4, in terms of RATIOS (not EV, as that is what ETTL is supposed to take care of)?

STE2 can control only up to 2 channels. so u can only tell group A u want xx power and group B u want xx power. the 580 mk ii allows u to control up to group C. hence the radiopopper can attach to the 580 as well.
