Rating: 8/10

Pros: Excellent sharpness throughout the range.
Fast focussing. (But not as good as the f/2.8 versions, tends to hunt in lower contrast conditions)
        Lightweight. (Relatively)

Cons: Bad ergonomics!!!
67mm filter size. (Not constant with most other L zooms)
IS works but at a price. (Not so bad if they throw in the tripod collar)
Its a crime to give out lens pouches that do absolutely nothing to protect the lens.

I replaced the older non IS version and the image quality is constant with what I was getting with the older lens, excellent in general. Now I have usable images taken at as slow as 1/100 at 200mm. This lens has made taking pictures more convenient but in no way will it replace the tripod when the occasion calls for one. Still, its a very useful lens for walking about, picking out details. IS comes with a relatively hefty price tag, but you be the judge if its worth the money.

The really one complain that I have (and the reason why it got an 8/10) is the bad ergonomics design (as with the non IS version). Why on earth does it come with a 67mm filter thread for crying out loud?!?!?! Not constant with most L zooms and the handling is totally crap given the ridiculous length of the lens!!!!! I would very much rather they give it a 77mm thread and shorten the length, which will make it more convenient to transport and handle.
