i am thinking of shooting bugs. what would be a good lens to start off with? the 100?

180 for more working distance so you have a smaller chance of frightening the subject. if don't buy L then buy tamron lah.

dun shot models like they are bugs hor....  giggling... the 180 for bugs is the best bet...

my spider shots are all done with canon 100. make sure to flash. remember that you have to hand hold to track those moving insects like spiders and ants, to hand hold a 100 with a mounted 550EX, trying to achieve critical focus (especially if you have no split image prism screen) I already sweat like a pig.

remember, you must get focus on the bug's eye!

cannot use tripod ah? they move too fast issit? can use something to stun them so they don't move or not?  Huh

ok seriously, the non flying bugs like ants you can try the trick of blowing at them gently. they will usually freeze for a while, before bolting or going about their original business.

tell benny and I about it. if you can track sub-cm fish that jerks around, you can track insects.

i was referring to the blowing. i used to blow ants when i was little. mmm ... doesnt sound right ...
