The Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS, at around $400, is it really worth it?

How is the image quality? How good is the IS? How is the handling?

Has anyone tried it yet to give a proper feedback on it (and not just screaming "Non L!!!")

The price seems affordable for such a cost. Afterall, the ranking is based on L lenses being 9/10  giggling...

Hadn't had the chance to test it yet but someone has done a review with some full-res samples from a 350D

For that price, it looks like a very good lens.

I had a dream using it while taking a nap today.  Laugh till drop I recall zooming in on a subject and breaking the lens from turning the zoom ring too fast.  Laugh till drop Laugh till drop Laugh till drop

Just want to check with bros over here, anyone bought this as of now? If so, anyone shot a concert with this?

Considering that most concerts ban big guns (L tele lens) unless you're the official photographer, I was wondering if sneaking in to shoot with this will actually work.

Any comments?

ƒ/5.6 how to shoot concert? why don't you go and shoot the NUS Arts Festival? You can bring as big a gun as you like since you will be the "official" photographer giggling...

its very strange. according to photozone, the lens does not even have a focusing ring, then why does it have an AF/MF switch?

Ha paiseh   Embarrassed not exactly have any budget for a big gun too. I wouldn't mind helping out another photographer for the NUS concert just to learn more, still raw here

Just so happened that I'd be going for a concert in April, so was thinking of snapping some shots. I know that the aperture is an issue, can only hope that at certain timings the lights would be good enough.

Hihi, just read the review too, there is a focusing ring on it. Also spotted it on the picture itself too.

simple. Let you know that there's alot of WTS: of this item. So you can figure out it's quality.

"The focus and zoom control rings operate reasonably smooth. So yes, unlike the 18-55mm IS it has a dedicated focus ring and it's perfectly usable."

It has a dedicated focus ring.
