for me its D3. the D300 is nice but somehow i feel that they overloaded the camera and it doesn't seem to perform as good as the specs say.

D3 and D300 are both very good cameras. Good in specs but not market share. Canon's aggressive marketing approach has paid off. It may seem stupid to have so many bodies - 5 to be exact but it caters for different needs. Nikon only has 4.

what is on paper doesnt seem to translate into reality for the d300. handled it during sitex. af doesnt seem as fast as nikon claims. the e3 was even worse. i only consider the a700 to be faster than my camera.

D3 and D300 in my mind are highlights not letdowns.  Imagine what Canon will come back with to counter these.  Competition is a good thing.

1D Mk III, I unfortunately have to concede, was a let down.  BUT, it was only temporary and the issue is being rectified and their getting it right on the first fix (although, Canon really should have got it right out of the box the first time).

The Sony A700 is a big joke. The shutter is weak. I was playing with one at the Sony showroom. After the max burst, the shutter is like whimpering... Even the 400D is much better.
