Hi all,
I just got myself the 85mm F1.8 and am now trying to get use to the minimum focusing distance required by it since I'm on 40D.
I'd appreciate any tips or suggestions on how to fully utillise this wonderful lens. (Reads: I haven't shot prime for a very long time Smiley ) Time to start moving the old pair of legs.
Thank you.

Why did you buy the lens in the first place?

For one, I love portraiture. Guess thats why I got this lens since my 17-55 is not giving enough background blur even at wide open.

I've got 100mm F/2. How i utilize it and learn? Go to some of the public exhibitions, events and etc to shoot and post to get some feedback from other users.

Having seen many portrait shots online taken using the 17-55IS. I have come to a conclusion that the 17-55IS lens is a good lens but just not good enough. True enough that it's a versatile lens but it's not a good one for specific purposes. Since you like portraiture, I suggest you look into replacing the lens with either the 24-105 or the 24-70. The bokeh is sweeter for these 2 lenses.

Well..the 24-70 or maybe the 24-105 will be coming in the near future, when I get my FF body Smiley
As for now, the 17-55 is my workhorse as I need the wide and tele ends of it to cover wedding.

simple. bring it out to shoot shoot shoot!

the best part about the 85/1.8 is the fast focusing speed and the ability to shoot in dim lighting conditions... Smiley
