This is a tough one.... I would say "body" too.  From what i know the sports that you take are normally within 200mm range. 400mm will be of not much use for event and concerts. Also, its not noticeable to your other 'half' if you intend not to let her know. I thought you were considering 300mm ??

that's why I say it will open up new possibilities, more so than a new body. if TOH is a problem, let me be generous and let you park you lens at my place then you can tell her that it is a loaner hey! what are CG buddies for?

High-iso performance will help you in more situations then the 400mm will.  Also with 21mp you can crop a 200mm shot to 400mm FOV and still be left with an image over 8mp (not sure on the exact maths here, but I don't think it's exactly linear).

size does matters? okay, will seriously think about it when my funds comes in. Other there any other way to make payment to B&H other then credit card. My credit card do not have such high credit limit.

Just got the 40D to replace my 10D today....1 think will put the 1DsM3 on hold for a while...MS selling $12.5K....Someone bought 2 at a go from MS 1 week ago.
