I bought my wife a new 40D as an early Xmas present.  She used it once and at the end of the first week it died.  Would not power up at all (no it wasn't the battery, that is fully charged and then tested at Harbourfront).  Have to wait 5 days now while they fix it.

Not very happy!  I asked for a new one but the service manager said no.  I have sent a rather scathing email to Canon but I don't really hold out much hope.

The tech had no idea so they had to take in for a proper exam.

I'm just glad I got from a approved dealer with warranty.

In my view QA should not be related to price and with Canon, lately it really hasn't been - just look at the first batch of 1DIII's.

This is bad... I can feel your frustration...!!  Did they try to use their own spare battery to test it on the spot? 5 days is really too much for a brand new set. Furthermore its power issue. Should b 1 to 1 replacement or something.

I've shot with the 30D in heavy rain before and nothing has happened to it at all.

No, couldn't be water.  It had not seen the outdoors in it's short 1 week life.

Probably QC. I do understand that they SHOULD by right offer 1 to 1 exchange within the first 7 days?

Isn't there a 7 Day 1-1 with the dealer?

That is VERY bad.  But I doubt anywhere other than N. American, Oz/Nz and Western Europe might you be able to get an ono to one exchange.

Anything we can do to get Canon's attention?

Let me check and revert.
