i SHOOT, therefore i PRINT

I know most of the folks here who are interested in High Dynamic Range photography would agree that the recommended type would require 3 shots, taken at -1EV, 0EV and +1EV. However, there are several pressing issues with regards to this concept.

1. Focusing

2. Shutter and Sharpness

In several HDR images I have come across, the entire subject often seems to be very sharp, ie buildings, internal and exterior. However, most of the times, we struggle with getting enough depth of field for the entire picture to be of that quality.

The questions that come to mind is: How do people get everything sharp? One shot, focus on the background, while another focus on the front? Or do you shoot 3 shots and one focal, mixing it with 3 shots at another focal, and stich all together? Or is it just perhaps shot in RAW and maximised as much as possible?

With regards to the 3 shots overlapping HDR concept, I pose another question. When shooting skies, the clouds are moving. Even the best models cannot remain totally stationary for 3 shots. Once they overlap, apparently some artefacts appear, ghosting occurs too. They are not totally over one another, even with a tripod sometimes.

With that, the question comes to mind, how to create a shot with lots of detail, dynamic range and sharpness? Skill and experience comes to mind, yes. However, one has to take a first step in the right direction. What steps to take?

One method i read is shoot in RAW, then from RAW you generate 1 darker, 1 lighter and 1 medium, then you merge the 3 of them.

It's a software similar to PhotoShop that does HDR.
