still can, since he already has an existing 5xx, means it will be master

either use 580 on hotshoe control 430 somewhere else... or use wireless IR to control both away from camera... or use a cord to ensure the 580 is away off camera...

It can control a lot more than 2 flashes. I've tried 12 in 2 groups and played with ratio. Works great.
In my opinion, the ST-E2 is a great equipment given too little attention.

No need. ST-E2 will trigger all flashed in group A as well in Group B. All at the same time.

ST-E2 can control any number of flashes in two group. a 550/580EX mounted on hotshoe acting as a master can control up to three groups.

correct, but my flash C is out of the line of sight... so that's why i am asking whether A can trigger B and B can trigger C.

Shoot me for asking this.
Is there a wireless trigger for the Canon flash + camera?
Off shoe cord is still irritating.
but to trigger the camera, I don't think the ST-E2 is capable of that!
