extreme macro madness

so you think a 1:1 macro lens is really taking small things. well let's see what the MP-E65 5× macro lens can do!
the crazy lens itself, it extends from a minimum of 11.5cm to a max of 24.5cm!
and here I used it to shoot the number 8 on my Nokia 6300 phone, from 1× to 5× magnification. btw all shots done with handheld
and here you can see the DOF at ƒ/2.8, ƒ/8 and ƒ/16 (all at 5×)

Wow, check out the
erection
extension on that puppy! My dream macro lens. Rather expensive here in SG no? How much did you pay for it?

I borrowed it from a fish kaki. this afternoon will be trying to shoot some micro-sundew with it.

Hur hur. I think SAF marksmanship only enuff for 1:1 or at most 2:1 magnification. 5:1 magnification probably needs SAF sniper training or maybe Zen archery skillz.
I heard you really need a macro flash as well since the lens will block off any hotshoe flash.

I use twin 550EX triggered by ST-E2. poor man's macro ring flash
macro normally cannot hotshoe.

so you want to see extreme macro?
how about a single leaf of a sundew at 5× magnification? this is a single 20D frame slightly cropped and reduced:
and this is the same image cropped but unresized:

Cheers,
then you'd need a bloody spotlight so you can see the subject and focus!
